Academic Language Therapy

Academic Language Therapy, often referred to as dyslexia therapy, is a targeted approach designed to build a high degree of accuracy, knowledge, and independence for students with written-language disorders, including dyslexia.

Sessions are provided by Academic Language Therapist, Katie Meeks (CALT-IT), using the evidence-based Sounds In Syllables (S.I.S.) structured literacy program. Therapy sessions are available in person and virtually, allowing families flexible access to high-quality intervention.

The program provides lasting remediation, even for students with significant learning challenges, through structured, intensive, and multisensory instruction. A dyslexia diagnosis is not required to receive academic language therapy.

Research-Based Instruction

The Sounds In Syllables program is grounded in decades of literacy research and follows the principles of explicit, systematic phonics and language instruction supported by national reading research.

Multisensory Learning

Students learn using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-motor pathways in the brain simultaneously in order to enhance learning and memory.

Systematic and Structured Approach

Instruction follows the logical order of language with a methodical progression from the most basic elements to more difficult material. Concepts are systematically reviewed to strengthen memory.

Individualized, Diagnostic Teaching

Every lesson is tailored to the student through ongoing assessment and diagnostic teaching, ensuring instruction meets each learner’s specific needs and pace.
